HOW TO LACE UP RUNNING SHOES THE RIGHT WAY
It might seem like a trivial thing to be worried about but the way you lace your running shoes is important!
Imagine you’re running, walking, hiking, or cycling, and all of a sudden your shoelace comes undone, and then it happens again, and again…
Not only is it annoying but also can be potentially dangerous.
It’s important to lace your shoes correctly to avoid this from continuously happening, as well as support your arches and help prevent shin splints.
Injury risk is at a much higher rate if you don’t use the right technique to lace your running shoes, so read on for the best lace up techniques to prevent any risk of injury and allow you to workout without any interruptions!
Heel lock lacing – Perfect for narrow feet and heel slippage, this will help secure your feet inside your shoe and stop your foot from slipping and sliding. See image below.
Wide forefoot – This is a great technique to help relieve tension and prevent pressure for people with wider feet.
As you might already know you can buy running shoes for wide feet, but in addition try this simple lace up technique.
High instep lacing – A high instep, AKA high arch, can cause pins and needles through your arch if you tie your running shoes up too tight.
This lace up technique will make your feet feel more comfortable and reduce pressure by avoiding the cross over technique.
If you’re unsure of which one to chose, most runners would benefit from the heel-lock lacing technique to increase stability of the shoe. Of course you can test out different techniques to see which is the best ‘fit’ for you.
Last but not least, don’t forget to double knot your running shoes!
